International Year of Chemistry Closes on a High Note

Another exciting outcome: the closing ceremony of the International Year of Chemistry welcomed more than 800 participants from around the globe on December 1, 2011. They discussed the challenges we face and solutions chemistry can bring to contribute to a better world by 2050. The different presentations generated a real breath of fresh air and optimism towards chemistry.

Conceptum Conferences & Events has, under the patronage of UNESCO and in collaboration with 7 leading companies in the chemical industry, developed a new platform called the Young Leaders Forum. Thirteen young talents working in chemistry around the world have met regularly over the past year to propose solutions to future challenges in 2050, especially in regards to health, renewable energies and water management. The Young Leaders presented their conclusions to a panel of renowned individuals, such as Nobel Prize winner Ada Yonath, several CEOs of international chemical groups, and also HRH Prince Philippe and European Commissioner for Research and Innovation Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.

The reactions to the day’s presentations were extremely positive and resulted in a genuine desire to continue the discussions beyond the event.
